Relative to the Port Chicago 50

On August 4, 2022, the State of California passed Senate Joint Resolution No. 15 which urges the President of the United States and the Congress of the United States to take action to restore honor to the sailors of Port Chicago through full exoneration.

The resolution, authored by longtime Port Chicago advocate California State Senator Steve Glazer (D-Contra Costa), calls for the Secretary of the State Senate to transmit copies of the resolution to the President and Vice President of the United States, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Majority Leader of the Senate, and each Senator and Representative from California in the Congress of the United States.

Glazers' resolution showed a remarkable level of support, with an incredible 72 co-authors including 18 Republicans and 1 Independent. Votes were unanimous in favor of supporting exoneration.

Wit the full support of the State of California, a push is underway to gain additional support from cities and counties to encourage the state's U.S. Senators — Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA) — to make the case for exoneration directly to President Biden and U.S. Congress. Grassroots support for SJR-15 has included letters of support and phone calls directly to the offices of the senators and the Secretary of the Navy.
